Getting Ready For Foundation
Many Foundation  students find it difficult to tie shoelaces
While we do not expect students to be able to tie their shoelaces when they arrive at school we would encourage parents to persevere in the teaching of this valuable skill.
Teaching your child to put on and take off his/her jacket and work the zipper is also a valuable skill as they are often removed during the school day. All clothing and belongings should be clearly named to avoid lost jumpers, hats etc.
Another skill for Foundation Students to master is the opening of containers, food wrappers etc by themselves.

Prep Checklist

Preparing Your Child To Start School
Beginning school as a Foundation student is an exciting event for all involved. Could you please ensure that your child is learning how to carry out the following tasks:
1. Going to the toilet independently.
2. Eating their play lunch and lunch independently.
3. Dressing themselves independently
.
4. Being able to recognise their name and begin writing it.
5. Beginning to hold a pencil  and use it correctly.
6. Carrying their own school bag, and  to pack and unpack it themselves.
7. Beginning to develop the following social skills – learning to share, packing up toys and equipment, learning to listen and to take turns and say please and thank you.
You will find that all children beginning Prep are not all at exactly the same stage at the same time. Learning takes place for all children at varying rates and many children will begin to grasp a particular skill or concept when they are ready. The multitude of experiences offered during a Foundation  year allows all students the opportunity to develop and grow at their own rate. It is important to find a balance between supporting and challenging all students.
