Behaviour Management

Rationale:

At St Patrick’s  a respectful, safe, secure and healthy learning environment is promoted at all times throughout the school community. All members of the school community are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, thoughts and behaviours. Particular attention is given to the development of individuals who regard themselves as worthwhile and valued. This is reflected through the inclusion of Restorative Practice and Circle Time in all classes. All individuals are given opportunities to become  valued members of the school community. Students will be praised for positive and acceptable behaviours. Students will be given consequences for unacceptable behaviours.

Implementation:

In the Classroom

The following behaviours are encouraged:
  • Follow the teacher’s instructions at all times
  • Work and play safely and fairly at all times
  • Demonstrate respect to everyone at all times
  • Speak to others with respect and care at all times
  • Demonstrate care for all classroom property at all times
  • Contribute to the upkeep of a neat and tidy classroom at all times
  • Listen to others and praise them
  • Have a clear understanding of classroom rules
  • Contribute to the development of classroom rules
The following behaviours are not encouraged:
  • Selfish work and play
  • Disrespect for the teacher
  • Disrespect for other students
  • Speaking rudely to others in the classroom
  • Disobeying a teacher when he or she asks something of a student
  • Physically harming others, eg: kicking, hitting, punching and spitting


In the Playground


The following behaviours are encouraged:
  • Play safely at all times
  • Act in a friendly manner to others at all times
  • Play in a manner where all involved are having fun
  • Listen to others at all times
  • Care for school property at all times
  • Respond immediately when a teacher calls you
  • Demonstrate respect and care at all times



The following behaviours are not encouraged
:
  • Playing unsafely
  • Leaving the school grounds
  • Refusing to respond immediately when a teacher calls
  • Physically hurting others
  • Swearing at others
  • Speaking rudely to others
